Gifted and Talented
At Courtlands, we believe that our children are entitled to a curriculum that will allow them to reach their full potential. We recognise each child’s individual needs and we strive to develop experiences which put personalised learning at the heart of teaching and learning. It is for this reason that Courtlands identifies its gifted and talented pupils, and is committed to providing opportunities to nurture their particular skills.
The government defines gifted and talented pupils as, “those who are achieving, or who have the potential to achieve at a level substantially beyond the rest of the peer group.”
Pupils are identified through teacher assessment and learning opportunities are put in place to support these children.
During the academic year 2016 – 2017, groups were set up to support pupils in the following areas:
This academic year, 2017 – 2018, we are focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and a number of exciting links and projects are being set up to develop further the ability of children identified as showing particular talents in these areas.
